Identifying It
- Hypersomnia and/or Insomnia (too much or too little sleep)
- Irritability
- Feeling of sadness (doesn't have to be reported by the child. Could be observed by other children, parents, doctors, or other adults)
- OR an inability to find as much joy in actions that are enjoyable to everyone else
- A withdrawn social life
- Less or no physical activeness
- Chronic Sadness
Effects Later On
It has been found that many people who have depression in childhood have it and other serious illnesses later on in life. Depression has been known to lead people to alcoholism and 1/3 of all children whose parent(s) have depression have depression themselves.
